What area do you provide family photography services for?

1

Sarah provides family and newborn photography services for the greater Ann Arbor area. She is willing to travel within 15 miles of Ann Arbor with no additional charge. If you live further afield and are looking for outdoor photos, Sarah is more than happy to recommend one of the many beautiful parks to meet at within AA and its surrounding area. If you are hoping for in home photos but live further, just reach out! She’s more than happy to help figure out a plan that works for all parties involved.

How long do Photo session last?

2

I always allow 1 to 1.5 hours for family photo sessions. It takes time for everyone to warm up to the camera, especially little kids. It’s a huge priority that families feel comfortable and relaxed during sessions. For that reason, it’s critical that sessions are not rushed. Similarly, milestone sessions take about an hour since there are less individuals involved but the pace is gentle and playful. Newborn sessions take 2-3 hours since babies are truly on their own schedules and keeping them happy is my priority.

do you help families coordinate outfits for photos sessions?

3

Absolutely! What your family wears during a photo session has a huge impact on your photos. Once your session is booked, Sarah begins working with your family on wardrobe cohesion. There’s no expectation to go out and buy new clothes, but rather a focus on using existing wardrobe items that complement one another, your environment and your family’s personality.

do you have any basic clothing recommendations for family and newborn photos?

4

Every family is unique, which is why Sarah enjoys working with each family individually in order to find the right wardrobe combination. However, there are some basic tips that are helpful to most people hoping to elevate and coordinate their clothing choices.

Avoid too much black unless it is very intentional.

Avoid bright, warm colors to ensure that they don’t reflect back on skin tones.

Avoid tiny patterns that can create weird, jumbles effects with digital cameras.

Incorporate textures, such as lace, sweaters, soft cottons, linens, smocked dresses, corduroy, etc.

For vibrant nature settings, lean towards neutrals to ensure that your wardrobe isn’t trying to compete with your surroundings.

Coordinate outfits instead of perfectly matching them. When families wear complementary color tones and styles, the photos are immediately elevated and cohesive. The focus is now on the family itself, instead of distracting clothing choices.
